I couldn't get the song to open. It tried to load forever so I just gave up.
I say that was a fine effort. That's not an easy tune, and it's a long one at that.

I heard you playing more fills than you probably need to- I would concentrate more on the groove. Yes, the timing is inconsistent, but when it's on it sounds decent...it sounded like you were going for things you weren't ready to play yet, that's all. I would stay away from the triplet based fills like the one at 4:07 because it didn't really fit...the song never really sounded like it got into a pocket, but that's easily remedied. You've got some nice ideas- just work on the execution.
Something like this would be great to use as a practice tool for your fundamentals. I would work on this song as if I were building a house. Start with the foundation. I would play alternating sixteenth notes all the way through the tune, for example. RH lead, then LH. Then add kick drum. Then play your various groove patterns with slight variations, but keeping it simple- no fills- just grooves. All the way through the tune. Then maybe work on improvisation. No grooves, just soloing and fills. This will help to hear which types of patterns or fills fit the charater of the song or feel.
Just some ideas to work on...

The drums are Yamaha Maple Customs, not Roland V Drums. I had the stock heads cranked, I think that attributed to the sound. I have Evans G2's on now and the drums sound much fuller and richer in tone.
I tried to play the song as close as I could to Billy's original recording. That's why there is a lot of fills and some of it doesn't quite work. I worked on the tune for quite awhile but a lot of it that I was trying to play was still over my head, even after taking it slowly.
Billy had those tracks a couple of months in advance, and he schredded them everyday. He made a point of making them more drummy with more fills because it's a drum video. Normally he would have grooved them. That's what he told me. [img]tongue.gif[/img]
Even though I picked on that one bar, he still sounds great.
